NARRATIVE PROJECT
Welcome! This page contains my Narrative Project: Memoir.
In the past I took a storytelling class where we learned to tell stories verbally. One of the assignments was to write a story about our lives and present it verbally. As a person who is petrified to speak publicly, this seems like a much more comfortable medium for me to use. I have the ability with this site to share my story with the world without having to do it face-to-face and verbally.
Without a doubt, I am a very emotional person. Writing this memoir, I was able to go back to the feelings that I had during my month-long camping trip and learn more about myself. I use my emotions, past & present, to help make sense of the world around me. As someone whose recall is not the best, I used an old journal from this trip to help me reconnect with my feelings during the time.
The Letter to my Author-Self who I have not connected with in a long time took me some time to get started, but once I got into the rhythm this letter helped me to reconnect to who I am as a writer. I had never given my author-self a name before and I think that giving Petunia a name of her own really helped me to connect.
One of the blog posts I have had the most fun with so far was a fictional Writers' Roundtable Discussion. Like the Letter to my Author-Self, this took me a few tries to figure out what I wanted to say. Once I knew how I wanted my story to go, my fingers were flying across the keyboard with a lightning speed.
The next blog was the one that was the toughest for me so far it was an Composing an Emotional Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism. While this blog was tough for me, it was also helpful before writing my memoir. It was good for me to go back to one of the biggest decisions in my life and see what happened and think about a Telling Myself a Different Story: A Memoir Counterfactual.
I was excited to write this narrative and had fun choosing this topic and, hopefully, others will enjoy reading it!
